I lost an earbud from my AirPods Pro and had to replace it. I also replaced the protective case I was using; however, I the top fell off unexpectedly and became lost as well. I needed a case I could lock and went searching and found the Speck Presidio ClickFlip case which happens to be dust resistant and has a surface which doesn’t trap bacteria.
Here are my thoughts on this case.

Back in September I did a video featuring my AirPods Pro being crushed by a car and I got a replacement for it. I also showed off in that video a simple cheap case for my AirPods Pro case, to protect it from scratches and also to clip it onto clothing.
Well fast forward less than three months later and the top of the case is gone, it simply fell off and it’s nowhere to be found. What I’ve noticed is that the seams on the case have started to open up as the silicone or rubber or whatever the material is has started to expand so it no longer has the top, it’s just gone.
Welcome to another GThentic Review, today we’re taking a look at the Speck Presidio Clickflip dust resistant case for AirPods Pro. So, I’ve decided to get myself a case that can be locked so that my earbuds don’t fall out and also, I want a case where the top and bottom portion of the case isn’t separate so that the whole case remains together. Also, I didn’t really want something else that would stretch out and risk losing a piece of the case or risk the AirPods themselves falling out again.
So, what I got was this Spec Presidio ClickFlip case. It has a microban coating, plastic on the outside, pretty much a hard plastic shell. It also has a carabiner so I can clip it unto my backpack, clothing, pocket, belt loop, or something to keep it secure. Also, it doesn’t fall out of my pocket each time I try to retrieve something. So that’s why I’ve opted for an option that comes with the included carabiner.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at our case. Inside the box you just get the Speck case, it’s a two-piece case and it has a carabiner with a belt loop or some sort of little fabric loop for you to connect it to. The lightning charging port is covered. The instructions are included on the inside of the case, that’s the installation instructions, and it also has that nice little rubber lining on the inside as well. So, there’s a soft inner lining and a hard shell on the outside. Also, in the instructions it tells you that very importantly, you must pair the AirPods first before installing the case because once the case is on, you won’t be able to pair it anymore because of that hard plastic shell on the outside. You just won’t be able to push that button to pair it.
Now taking a look at the included carabiner, we can see here where its chrome finished and it’s not the anodized aluminum, which I actually prefer, because I’ll just bring in the old one in a sec here just to compare them, but the anodized ones typically scratch off whereas the chrome finish is a lot more durable. Now comparing the old finish, which is the anodized aluminum, to the chrome finish, you can see here from just clipping it on and off to different objects over time the aluminum covering has basically deteriorated. I’ll just go ahead and remove it from the old case and then I’ll just install it in the new Speck ClickFlip case. On the Speck case you open it you pull everything through the top of the case and then the bottom piece is separate. You just simply slide the AirPods case into it, of course ensuring you’ve paired it beforehand. The light shines through that little opening right there, and then the back is covered with this hard shell so you won’t be able to press the button on the back. The lightning port is accessible through that flap and it’s a very sleek case. You can see the light there coming through. To finish the installation, you just slide the top portion back through, pull it down until it snaps into place, and then press the top portion until that also snaps into place. And that’s it, the case is completely installed. Now you just press down that locking mechanism, the top slides up, and you’re supposed to be able to slide the entire case up like that; but I find it really really difficult straight out of the box. I’ll check back in a few days to see if it gets any easier, but for now it’s really really difficult to open the case, which I guess is a good thing, because it means your AirPods won’t accidentally fall out the case.
It does close with a very satisfying click and I’ll just go ahead and install that carabiner, and one more time. It is starting to get a little easier to do but it’s still somewhat rigid fresh out of the box.
Let’s just close up the case and just check to see how good it is at keeping your AirPods secure. So, I’m just going to shake it a little bit, yeah, I don’t think that’s coming out. How about from a drop, and nope still not coming out. Perhaps we should try dropping it on the floor, let’s see oh there we go, still didn’t come out.
Now let’s say you didn’t remember to pair your earbuds before and you need to remove the case to pair them or just to get access to that button on the back. The instructions say you’re supposed to squeeze the sides and just pull the top right off. I’m trying here, it’s really, really, difficult. Again, the case is brand new so let’s see how it fares over time. It’s really, really, difficult here. Alright, let me just try that again. Okay, so on second try if you just open the top just a little bit and you squeeze the sides and pull as you pull, the bottom of the case should slide off just like that and when it’s out, you just open the top portion, slide your AirPods case out, and then you’ll be able to pair it and do whatever else you need to do with it, like if you’re putting it on a different device for instance. And of course, the installation is the reverse, just put the bottom portion back on, slide it through the top just like you did to install it beforehand, then you’re good to go.
So, I’ve used the case for just over a week now and so far, it hasn’t opened accidentally on me once. It has gotten a little easier to open it with time so it seems like it’s loosening up somewhat, at least for the locking mechanism, and overall, I just find it to be a very good protective case. It keeps my earbuds intact and the included carabiner doesn’t really scratch.
